Hello and welcome to Reception
Within Early Years we ensure the children have a safe and happy place to learn, work, and play. Children are guided on a nurturing journey enabling them to become confident, inquisitive, imaginative, and empathetic learners. The fully inclusive and personalised curriculum promotes independence and encourages children to embrace challenges and to persevere. Children will develop their metacognitive knowledge of how they learn-their knowledge of themselves as learners, of strategies, and of tasks. We believe there is no limit to what children can achieve, with determination, hard work, and a positive attitude anything is possible.

Your child’s first year at school

We were very excited to find a mystery box in our classroom. When we opened the box, we discovered four gigantic eggs! We talked about what we thought might be inside the eggs- snakes, fish, hens, tigers, lions or even dinosaurs! We decided we thought it would be kinder to let the eggs hatch when they are ready so we will observe them over the next few days. Some of use decided to draw what we thought was inside the eggs and some of us experimented with imprinting dinosaur skeletons into playdough to make fossils 🥚🦕🦖

We used Google Earth to zoom in on planet Earth, then in again to Europe and then to the United Kingdom. We continued to zoom in to Manchester and Sale Moor- we could see the roof of our school! We then learnt a song about the countries in the UK. We read the story ‘Handa’s Surprise’ about a little girl who lived in Africa. We zoomed in on Africa on Google Earth and talked about things that are the same about the UK and Africa and things that are different. We then had great fun exploring maps and globes- some of us enjoyed matching animals to their habitats 🌍🐘🦒
