History teaching ignites a curiosity in our pupils to learn about how past events have shaped the present day as well as how different cultures and individuals have influenced and shaped Britain over time.
Through effective learning and teaching, from Tree Tots to Year 6, we equip children to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. Through a varied and engaging curriculum, we help our children to develop a deep understanding of history and strive to inspire children’s curiosity to understand more about the past.
In KS1, pupils focus on significant individuals and events, whilst in KS2 focus is placed on studying history in chronological order. By the end of KS2, children will understand the shaping of England up to the 11th century, with a singular unit centred upon change over time up to modern day Britain. Throughout all of this, focus is placed on developing pupil’s confidence at deploying historical skills such as the analysis of sources, as well as their understanding of key historical concepts.
